Are there requirements for my child to participate in IWVYB?

Answer:  All players - beginners to advance - age 5 & up (see cut off dates below) are welcome!

Do the players have to tryout to make it on a team?

Answer:  No, all registered players make it on a team.  Please note players Pinto age and up (see chart below) are required to be evaluated.  The purpose of evaluations is to make every effort to identify the skill level of each player.  Evaluations will be held January 22nd and 29th for the Spring 2011 season. 

How much does registration cost?

Answer:  Spring 2011 - Registration cost is $90 for Shetland and $100 for Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, Pony, Colt/Palomino - please note price includes team t-shirt & ball cap and snack bar fee.  Fall 2011 - Registration cost TBD.

Is there a multi-child discount for families with more than one player?

Answer:  Yes, first child is full price, each additional child will receive $10 off full price.

What division will my player be participating in?

Answer:  All divisions are based on age - Cut off dates are based on age of player as of April 30, 2011.

May 1, 2004 - April 30, 2006 play in the SHETLAND (5-6 years old) division
May 1, 2002 - April 30, 2004 play in the PINTO (7-8 years old) division
May 1, 2000 - April 30, 2002 play in the MUSTANG (9-10 years old) division
May 1, 1998 - April 30, 2000 play in the BRONCO (11-12 years old) division
May 1, 1996 - April 30, 1998 play in the PONY (13-14 years old) division
May 1, 1994 - April 30, 1996 play in the COLT (15-16 years old) division

Are players allowed to play up a division?

Answer:  Yes, but it's not automatic.  Players must tryout to play up.  For more information please refer to page 22 in the IWVYB 2011 RULE BOOK.

What equipment is provided?  What's not?

Answer:  Each team manager is given an equipment bag that includes bats, balls, batting helmets, and catcher's gear for players to use.
>> Spring league - Players are required to provide the following standard baseball equipment: athletic cup & supporter (males only), baseball glove, and baseball cleats (metal cleats are prohibited in Mustang, Pinto, and Shetland divisions).  A bat and batting helmet are optional but recommended.  (Note:  bat circumference up to 2-5/8" and 42" in length is allowed in Shetland, Pinto, & Mustang; bat circumference up to 2-3/4" and 42" in length is allowed in Bronco, Pony, & Colt/Palomino.  Bats marked tee ball are not allowed in any division except Shetland.)  Players are also required to provide matching baseball pants, socks, and belt once team is determined.  Team shirts and ball caps are provided.
>> Fall baseball - each player is required to have a baseball glove and an athletic cup & supporter (males only).  Baseball cleats (metal cleats are prohibited in Mustang, Pinto, and Shetland divisions), bat, and batting helmet are optional but recommended.

When are practices and games?

Answer:  All teams play 2 games per week - one on Saturday and one on a weekday.  Practices will be established by either division schedule or by coach.  Shetland and Pinto divisions are limited to three outings a week.  Mustang division is limited to four outings a week.  Bronco, Pony, Colt/Palomino have no limit.
